Welcome to our April updates! Our team at Tiny Fighters Africa is excited to share some wonderful developments that have unfolded this past month. From welcoming a new board member to organizing a successful bake sale and visiting Island Maternity Hospital in Lagos, we have plenty to discuss. Let’s dive into the details!
Welcoming Our Newest Board Member!
We are excited to introduce Dr. Steph Lee, MD, MPH, FAAP, as our new board member! With extensive experience in pediatric healthcare and community outreach, Dr. Lee is a fantastic addition to Tiny Fighters Africa. She has worked with various organizations that aim to improve children's health outcomes, and her commitment to helping those in need aligns perfectly with our mission.
Dr. Lee is a double board-certified pediatrician and preventive medicine specialist. She is a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics and has been featured on Mom.com, Parents Magazine, and Doctor Radio on SiriusXM. Her passion is advocating for public policies that improve children's health, especially in the climate and environmental health space. She has a daughter who was born premature at 34 weeks and spent 2 weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit, so she knows how critical it is to the health of tiny babies that hospitals have the best resources and supplies. You can find her on social media @stephleemd.

Island Maternity Hospital Visit Highlights
A major highlight of April was our Board Member Taiwo Afonja's visit to Island Maternity Hospital. She was given a tour of their maternal ward and a peek inside the NICU. "During our visit, we witnessed firsthand the dedication of the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital's team. Together, we'll make a difference in neonatal care, one hospital at a time," Taiwo noted. We are working on getting our first shipment there in a few weeks, but there are some logistics we are still figuring out. We will keep you all posted!
Meet our team from Nightingale
In addition to our amazing Board of Directors, we are pleased to announce our members from the Nightingale Bamford School. They are all very excited to contribute to our mission. They are (from left to right) Zoe Lee, Director of Events; Alexa Lauren Caspe, Director of Social Media; Lucy Weld, Director of Volunteering.
Our First Bake Sale on Fifth Avenue
In mid-April, Tiny Fighters Africa held our first bake sale on Fifth Avenue. Thanks to our team from Nightingale plus two volunteers, Sophia Lamariana and Cece Baron, we offered an array of baked goods in exchange for a donation. We raised close to $200 in just a few hours. Beyond fundraising, this event was a wonderful chance for community connection and increasing awareness about our mission at Tiny Fighters Africa. One passerby posted about the event on her social media!
We need your support!
As we close out April, we feel a deep gratitude for the support from our community and the incredible contributions from our team. We are eager to move forward with our plans to get our first shipment to Nigeria soon.
Your ongoing support encourages us to keep working toward our goal. Thank you for being part of the Tiny Fighters Africa family. Stay tuned for more updates next month as we embark on new adventures together!
Together, we can make a real difference for the babies who need us the most.
